India's Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, tabled the Economic Survey for 2013-14 in the Parliament on 9 July, a day before the Union Budget. The report details the state of the Inidan economy. Here are some interesting facts from the reporty that may have missed most people's attention.
India ranks lower than Pakistan in schooling
Mean years of schooling in India stood at 4.4 years. This is much lower than countries like China, Brazil, Sri Lanka, and Egypt which have higher per capita incomes.
It is also lower than Bangladesh and Pakistan which have lower per capita incomes. The global average is 7.5 years.
However, India's expenditure on education as a percentage of GDP went up from 2.9% in 2008-09 to 3.3 per cent in 2013-14.
