Apollo Tyres Ltd is planning to set up a 2 x 7.5 Megawatt coal-based thermal power plant at its Oragadam facility near here. This will help it become self-sufficient in power requirements for critical equipment, said a company release.
Apollo has an installed capacity to produce 550 tonne of passenger vehicle and truck-bus radial tyres per day at this facility.
The proposed coal-based cogen plant will improve the overall efficiency and reduce the pollution resulting from a separate power generation and process steam generation. The company is waiting for the necessary environmental clearance from the Central government.
The cogen power plant will be set up in an area of 2.47 acres within its existing tyre manufacturing facility.
