Bihar government is now trying to encash its age-old ties with Mauritius. Bihar Tourism is now planning launch tour packages with Mauritian tour operators under its “Discover Your Roots” programme.
“Bihar and Mauritius share a common heritage,” said Tourism Minister of Bihar, Sunil Kumar Pintu, “and many in Mauritius want to know about it. There is a huge tourism potential as people of Mauritius want to explore their roots. This is why, we have signed a MoU with Association of Tour Operators, Mauritius. They have decided to launch a six day and five nights special package for those, who want to visit Bihar.” The minister added, “We have also decided to help those, who want to explore their roots. Under this scheme, our officials would try to find the villages from their forefathers came from.”
The Mauritian government has also decided to set up an information center especially for this purpose. Pintu said, “Mauritius government had requested for this and chief minister has given his consent on it. We are now finding a suitable piece of land.”
Bihar and Mauritius has also decided to bond over Bhojpuri. Pintu told, “Bhojpuri is one of the most important things that we share. The elder generation of Mauritius still speaks this dialect, but younger ones are now shifting towards French. Therefore, we decided to attract them by organising annual Bhojpuri Festival, to keep this dialect alive. Every year Mauritian government will organise this festival and we will send a team of actors, singers, dancers, scholars and opinion makers there.”
