Technology has made us greedy. We want all features on the mobile phone, the centre of our universe, within our limited budget. This has led to a spurt of home-grown manufacturers, including bit players, who together account for a big chunk of all smartphones shipped.
According to IDC's Asia/Pacific Quarterly Mobile Phone tracker, 119 million smartphones were shipped in the second quarter of 2013 in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding Japan.
