New Delhi, Nov 20 (IANS) Delhi, which battles water woes every summer, is its highest consumer in the country, according to a report released by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit here Tuesday. The per capita consumption of water in the city is 50 gallons a day.
Dikshit released Delhi Statistical Handbook 2012, according to which there are 15,40,968 metered connections while 39,930 dwellings do not have meters.
The generation of treated water in Delhi was 847 million gallons per day in 2012 while the city's requirement is around 1,100 MGD.
Tapped water supply is available to 81.33 percent houses in the capital, which has a population of over 16 million.
