Shimla, Nov 15 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal Thursday urged United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi to help the state get additional financial assistance of Rs.5,214 crore to overcome the shortfall left by the last Finance Commission.

"Use your good office to get additional financial assistance of Rs.5,214 crore from the union finance ministry to bridge the gap left by the 13th Finance Commission," Dhumal wrote in a letter to Gandhi.

He also asked her to provide the state details of the "so called" unutilised funds of Rs.10,000 crore she and other Congress leaders had talked about during campaigning ahead of the Nov 4 assembly polls.

Dhumal said repeated requests had been made to the union government to provide additional assistance to the state to meet the emergent financial committed liabilities but the central government did not respond.

Dhumal said the state received Rs.9,597.25 crore under the state plan from 2008-12 while the plan size was approved at Rs.11,400 crore.

He said the actual expenditure during the period was Rs.11,507.17 crore, which was 100.9 percent of the approved plan size.
