Responding to the call of All India Railway Engineers’ Federation (AIREF), the East Coast Railway Engineers Association (ECoREA) on Wednesday staged a mass dharana in front of the office of the General Manager of the zonal railway. In parallel, dharanas were also held in front of the offices of Divisional Railway manager at Khurda Road, Sambalpur and Visakhapatnam, protesting the persistent negligence towards their grievances by the Railway ministry.
The association also submitted a memorandum to the Railway minister, demanding fulfillment of its 22-point charter of demands. ECoREA general secretary Bobin Mohanty said that injustice has been done to railway engineers who look after the safe running of the trains compared to the nurses appointed who are given more importance in terms of pay and allowances.
