Raghuram Rajan is already a significant figure in the international financial landscape – and nowhere more so than in India.
Until his recent appointment as Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance of the Government of India, he was Professor at the University of Chicago in the US.
Before that he was Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund from September 2003 until January 2007.
In India, he has already been the head of a Committee on Financial Sector Reforms set up by the Government of India, which came out with its report in 2008.
So, we already have some indications of the views and priorities that he is likely to bring to his new job.
