Born in Nairobi, D'Souza grew up in three continents.

He attained a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of East Asia, and a master of business administration degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, US, where he reportedly was the youngest in the class.

This won him the moniker, 'the kid'.
