'Govt cheated aam-admi by hiking petrol price'

All it took was a day after the state election results.

The Union government allowed its oil marketing companies (OMCs) a steep hike of Rs 5 a litre in petrol prices. This was the steepest-ever hike since December 2008 and a second one in the calendar year.

The BJP and the Left parties were quick to condemn the hike, terming it as an 'attack' and a 'cruel hoax' on the common man.

Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Sitaram Yechury said the price hike was highly condemnable.

'This is a cruel hoax on the common people,' he told reporters.
