Vote of confidence Noted global economist Nouriel Roubini, who had predicted the global recession of 2008 in 2006, has said that India had the potential to overtake China in economic growth.
"In the next few years, it is possible that the growth of India might surpass that of China, with India maintaining a close to double-digit growth, while China might slow down to eight per cent or so," said Roubini, while delivering the Lakshmipat Singhania Centennial Lecture.
Roubini said countries like India, Indonesia, Brazil and Turkey, with their increasing reliance on domestic markets, have a "distinct edge" over China which is still dependent on trade and a weak currency to spur its growth story.
