Merger & Acquisitions
India Inc is going on an acquisitions spree like never before, whether it is acquiring firms within India or abroad. In the first 11 months of 2005 merger and acquisition deals in India have gone up by almost two-and-a-half times (235 per cent) at $18.2 billion against $6.1 billion worth of deals during the corresponding period last year.
According to Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, India has advanced 12 slots in the global M&A ranking, from 29th to 17th. Between January and November this year, no less than 1,013 M&A deals, which include mergers, complete acquisitions, stake buy-outs, were struck in the country. There were 694 pure M&A transactions. Cash-surplus domestic firms are going rampant in mergers and acquisitions.
