A man of steel
Sajjan Jindal loves to dream. But what makes his dreams different is their immediate realisation. For, this Vice-Chairman & MD, JSW Steel believes that `success comes to those who have the courage to follow their dreams.`
And it is this belief that has seen this son of late O.P. Jindal expand the JSW Group from a steel rolling mill in 1982 to a multi-business conglomerate worth over Rs 14,700 crore. The group`s interest is now not restricted to steel but extends to other areas such as power, port and chemicals too. But the 48-year old is hungry for more growth and has mega plans set foot in newer areas.
Interestingly, Sajjan`s dreams are not just about expanding his personal business empire. Rather they are more about inclusive growth of the society and that`s precisely the reason why, at the behest of the Union government, he agreed to hold the price line of steel products for a few more months despite taking a hit in bottomlines.
Sajjan sprang a huge surprise to Salboni farmers in West Midnapore district in Kolkata, when he offered free company shares, apart from the land cost, to all those who had lent their land for his project.
The Bellary airport in Karnataka was also the fruit of his efforts, possibly owing to his college days` Bangalore connection. He studied mechanical engineering from the Bangalore University.
This father of three is also an avid squash player with special interest in art and culture. Recently, he has also been elected the president of Assocham (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India).
In an exclusive interview to Sify.com, this great supporter of Indo-US nuclear deal unveils a few of his business plans and gives a larger picture of Indian steel sector.
