Getting it right

Price positioning is one of the issues that car manufacturers rack their brains over for every new vehicle they launch. For a company like Maruti Suzuki, getting this right is crucial for the long term success of its models. Last year, the company sold and exported over 5.6 lakh compact cars, a category in which it already has five different models.

If you thought that Maruti has been quite successful in juggling with so many models all in the Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh price range, how about one more addition this week. Yes, the Maruti Suzuki Ritz (the Indian name for the Splash) will join the already big line up of small cars from this brand.

And the company will be faced with the unenviable task of giving this new model its own unique price and value positioning.
