The countdown is over, and the curtains have been lifted! The anxiously-awaited Ford Figo is finally out and about with some spanking new features to flaunt! The super-hyped Ford Figo launch that took place this afternoon in Mumbai has brought forward the much required facelift for the flagship hatch of the American marque in India. After making its debut in 2010, Ford Figo has proven to be a fate-changer for its makers in India, providing them with the glorious sales figures that they had long been hoping for. And now, this latest Figo Facelift is expected to take the same legacy forward by boosting their sales even higher. Tagged with the punch line “Change is a Wonderful Thing”, the new Ford Figo has received a major cosmetic uplift while keeping the engineering under the hood pretty much the same as before.
What else has been kept the same you ask? To everybody's delight, we say the price tag. Yes, in the current market scenario, where almost every car-brand, big and small, in the country has been focused on raising the prices of its products in the name of the unstable state of the Indian Economy, Ford India has surprisingly, decided to stay away from that path. Wavering ever so slightly from the existing rates, the new Ford Figo price for the petrol variant has been marked at Rs 3.85 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi) while the diesel version has been tagged at Rs 4.82 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). Coming to what's new in the Figo facelift, we start with its freshly tweaked looks. First comes the front profile that has witnessed the maximum alteration. With a newly redesigned bumper in body-colour, the new Ford Figo also gets a fresh hexagonal air-dam coated in black.
As we head upwards, we come across a refurbished Ford front-grille that is as slim as ever, but now comes outlined in chrome which adds to the overall appeal of the car. This upgraded grille design is flanked by a new and smarter pair of headlamps that have received a novel round shape for better illumination with the turn indicators being included in the headlamp unit too. Where all other lamps have been modified in some way or another, fog lamps too have not been left untouched. The fog lamps of the new Figo facelift have not only been placed in a set of restyled all-black surrounds but have also been repositioned, again for better visibility during night-time driving. Moving on to the side view, we do not see any major modifications here except for a handsome set of alloy wheels that was definitely not there before. As for the rear, upgrades here are also not very abundant with only a redesigned cluster of tail lamps to speak of a facelift.
Meanwhile, in the colour-palette, two fresh and trendy shades have been added for the Figo Facelift, so that the already alluring collection of Colorado Red, Moon Dust Silver, Sea Grey, Panther Black, Diamond White and Chill will now have the shades of Bright Yellow and Kinetic Blue to show-off as well. Zooming in to the interiors, we see a new theme here. The flashy red of the dashboard has been substituted by a cool and calm navy blue imparting a more elegant feel to the chamber. Apart from that, the cockpit area of the new Ford Figo also gets the USB connectivity feature along with an audio control panel mounted on the steering wheel for ease of access.
Where mechanicals are concerned, all Ford India claim to have done is a tweak here and a twist there to bring down the overall NVH levels and to enhance the performance statistics of the hatchback. In other words, the four petrol variants of the new Ford Figo will be driven by the same 1.2-litre, 1196cc, Sequential Electric Fuel Injection (SEFI) engine with five-speed manual transmission while their diesel counterparts still house the popular 1.4-litre, 1399cc, Duratorq diesel mill. While the petrol mill is capable of cranking a peak 70bhp output for a 102Nm of maximum torque while delivering a decent mileage of 12.5kmpl, the diesel engine returns a fuel-economy of 14.5kmpl for a peak power rating of 68bhp with 160Nm of top torque.
