Sensex ends in red

After a firm start and a subsequent tight spell in positive territory, the market declined and ended lower on Wednesday.

The Sensex ended at 19,626.26 (provisional) with a loss of 33.56 points or 0.17%.

The Nifty closed at 5957.45, up marginally.

Capital goods stocks ended weak.

Power, PSU and bank stocks too closed weak.

Oil, pharma and automobile stocks mostly ended flat.

Metal stocks gave up most of their early gains.

Select FMCG, IT and realty stocks posted smart gains.

Midcap and smallcap stocks were mostly subdued.

The market breadth was slightly positive.
