A firm trend in Asian markets and slightly easing worries on the political front lifted stock prices on the Indian bourses
The market opened on a firm note, and, shrugging off a setback, moved higher and ended on the positive side on Thursday.
The Sensex ended at 18,508.53 (provisional) with a gain of 48.15 points or 0.26%.
The Nifty closed at 5625.35, up 10.55 points or 0.19%.
Capital goods, IT, bank, pharma and FMCG stocks edged higher.
Metal and realty stocks ended on a mixed note.
Power, automobile and oil stocks were mostly subdued.
Midcap and smallcap stocks had a fairly good outing.
The market breadth was slightly positive.
