Sensex ends in the red

After a listless start and a subsequent long spell in negative territory, the market found some support in the final hour.

Still, after rebounding into positive territory amid high volatility, it faltered and ended flat.

The Sensex ended at 18,502.77 (provisional) with a loss of 14.57 points or 0.08%.

The Nifty closed at 5623.05, down 4.70 points or 0.08%.

Realty, PSU, pharma, bank and metal stocks were mostly subdued.

FMCG, power and IT stocks found some support, but failed to hold at higher levels.

Select automobile, oil and capital goods stocks edged higher towards the fag end.

Midcap and smallcap stocks were mostly subdued.

The market breadth was slightly weak.
