The BSE Sensex or Bombay Stock Exchange sensitivity Index iss a value-weighted index composed of 30 stocks.
It came into being on January 1, 1986.
It took four years (July 25, 1990 to be precise) for the Index to scale 1000 points.
The march to 5000 points took a further nine years.
Seven years later, Mt 10000 was also scaled.
By now the pace began to quicken and Mt 15000 fell to BSE's bold risk-takers in a little over a year on July 6, 2007.
