Sensex up 65 pts as capital goods, metal stocks trade firm

Sensex crosses 19,000 on hopes of further reforms

With select capital goods, power, metal and oil stocks trading firm with impressive gains, the key indices Sensex and Nifty remain in positive territory this afternoon. However, with no prominent triggers to lift sentiment any significantly, buying interest is somewhat subdued today.

Bank stocks, especially those from the PSU space, are trading firm with smart gains. Automobile, FMCG and healthcare stocks are mostly trading flat. Information technology stocks are a bit subdued.

The Sensex is now up 65.15 points or 0.33% at 19,533.30. The Nifty is up 13.40 points or 0.23% at 5900.80.

Tata Steel is trading stronger by nearly 2.5% thanks to sustained buying at the counter. Hindustan Unilever, HDFC, BHEL, Hindalco and Larsen & Toubro are up 1.3% - 2%.

Hero Motocorp and State Bank of India are up by a little over 1%, at Rs 1694 and Rs 2257.75, respectively. Reliance Industries, Sterlite Industries, GAIL India, NTPC, Wipro and Maruti Suzuki are also trading firm.

Coal India is trading lower by about 2%. Jindal Steel & Power, Dr Reddy's Laboratories and Tata Consultancy Services are down 1% - 1.2%. ONGC, Bharti Airtel, Tata Power, Cipla and Mahindra & Mahindra are trading lower by 0.4% - 0.6%.

MMTC, up nearly 10% at Rs 603.30, is the top gainer among BSE 'A' Group stocks. JP Infratech is up 6.6% and DLF is trading higher by a little over 5%. Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services is up nearly 5% and Hindustan Copper is up with a gain of 4.5%.

Adani Enterprises, GMR Infrastructure, HDIL, Canara Bank, Berger Paints, IRB Infrastructure, Nalco, Opto Circuits, United Phosphorus, Jaiprakash Associates, Tata Communications and Hexaware Technologies are up 2.5% - 4%.

Jet Air India is down 5.5% following Etihad Airways deferring its proposal to buy a stake in the Indian airliner. Havells India, Sun TV Network, Aurobindo Pharma, Adani Power, Ultratech Cement, LIC Housing Finance, Divi's Laboratories and Ambuja Cements are down 1% - 2%.
