Sensex lost 1744 points in opening trade

The Indian stock markets witnesssed a historic fall on Wednesday (Oct 17, 2007). Minutes after the commencement of trade, the Sensex plunged to a low of 17307.90 points, a massive loss of 1744 points, prompting the officials to stop trading for an hour.
