Philips SPA7650
Rs 7,100
If you're going to dot five satellite speakers liberally around your room like sonic scatter cushions, then you could do a lot worse than opt for this subtle, unassuming set.
The sound is unlikely to blow you away with quite the same gusto as some of the more powerful setups on test, but you do get a warm, all-encompassing surround sound effect with sharp trebles and rounded bass. The well-separated audio is particularly effective if you find yourself in the middle of a fire-fight - the kind of situation where it's vital to know where the bullets are flying from, so you can effectively wreak a bloody retribution.
The six-meter rear cabling and access to the additional audio input via the wired remote are thoughtful extra touches, while the unobtrusive design is a blessed relief when you contemplate some of the more 'quirky' options on offer.
Love: Good sound quality, wired remote, pure value
Hate: Bass level control only, lacks oomph
We say Easy on both the eye and the ear - and, at less than a ton, easy on the pocket too
Overall power: 90W
Sub power: 25W
Inputs: Analogue six-channel PC, 3.5mm in
