The philosophy behind the Super bike category, which was created halfway through the 1970s, was to race bikes that were very powerful. Though this philosophy has been updated, the basic rule remains the same.
The technical regulations, which have remained virtually unchanged since 1988, are a demonstration of the total success of the formula. Four-cylinder bikes up to 750cc, three-cylinder bikes up to 900cc and twin-cylinder bikes up to 1000cc are all allowed to take part in the championship.
