The first drive to office in my new Tata Venture was truly packed with a punch. The security person told me to retreat and park my "call center cab" outside the office premises. A flash of bewilderment was soon replaced with a revelation that in India vans were only accepted as either cargo vans or cabs.
Speaking of vans, the affordable van segment of the Indian market was solidly monopolized for about 20 years by the two models of the Maruti Suzuki - the Eeco and the Omni. The advent of the new Ventura, a 7 - seater van, from the promising house of the Tata, could indeed be a tough competition for the Maruti Suzuki duo.
