Just a few weeks ago, Gujarat farmers were offering prayers to the Rain God to please him for a brief visit. But now, they seem to be wishing that their prayers had not been answered so ardently. For, the last week`s torrential rains in the State not only disrupted normal life but also resulted in huge life and property losses. The situation was so grim that the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, had to call it ` the aerial tsunami`.
Apart from personal losses, the deluge had caused heavy damage to a whole lot of industries in the state. Here are a few statistics:
