A car featuring ultra light steering, allowing you to cut though the zig zag maze of heavy traffic and narrow parking. My commuting time usually stretches to 1.5 hours and helping me glide through it is my new Volkawagen Passat 2011. Though a bit hugh, it scores all the points in comfort and easy drive.
How is it in the city?
In Mumbai's traffic loaded roads consumes 2 hours to cover my 40 km commute, leaving me spending a sixth of my day cocooned in car. Thanks to my Passat which relaxes my mind with high end features like auto transmission, that makes such smooth shifts that you barely bother.
Further contributing to a calm drive is the Auto hold function, which helps the most when you are stranded at a long traffic light. The brake would retain the pressure even after you remove your foot and just with a touch of throttle your Passat is all geared up to zoom again. The seats, an absolute bliss, are plush, well supportive and air conditioned to fend against sweaty backs in humid weather. The intriguing MFD is packed with loads of info to engage and entertain you even in boring jams.
Yet leading to discontent is the visibility, which could leave you exhausted unnecessarily and the brake progression, requiring more pressure in the trigger but becoming over responsive towards the end, daggering a rear dash.
These small drawbacks, I feel are easily manageable and with its promise in comfort and drive, Passat is perfect for city commuters.
