Volkswagen’s three musketeers
Volkswagen’s massive assembly plant is as yet only bare columns and unfinished roofs. For now it seems like a chaotic mixture of steel and concrete. But behind the clutter there is a hi-tech plant coming up, complete with one of the most sophisticated paint and assembly shops. And going by the meticulous plans that this German company is drawing up for both its plant and products, it won’t need much of divine intervention.
Volkswagen says that it is adopting a ‘top-down’ approach to the Indian passenger car market; one where it’s entry into the market is marked by the launch of its premium car models. The Touareg and the Passat were the first to come in, offering Indian buyers a premium experience and establishing the Volkswagen brand’s upmarket identity. It is the turn of the Jetta next to capture the hearts of buyers in the premium sedan category.
