Will Montek be the Finance Minister?

Will Montek Singh Ahluwalia become the Finance Minister? Certainly, he is well qualified for the job in publicly known and some unknown ways as well. But will Sonia Gandhi allow it? The Prime Minister has always wanted him for the job but in 2004 the Left stopped the appointment, saying Ahluwalia was a World Bank man, whatever that means.

The PM was unable to get his way last November too, when he wanted Dr C. Rangarajan but was prevented by party loyalists who said, wh at about us? Soniaji sided with them. But now that Rahul Gandhi has arrived, the Ahluwalias are hopeful that the best job in North Block is within reach.
