Exit Ranveer Singh. Enter Aamir Khan.
Vivo, the Chinese smartphone brand that recently hogged headlines for developing the world's first phone with an in-screen fingerprint scanner, has managed to rope in the Bollywood superstar as its new brand ambassador.
As with films, Aamir is known to be extremely choosy about the brands he associates with. So, this is a big win for the Chinese brand, whose parent firm BBK Electronics also owns two other top-selling smartphone brands, Oppo and OnePlus.
Kenny Zeng, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Vivo India said his company was "thrilled about the possibilities that our partnership with one of the world's biggest superstars, Aamir Khan, will open up for Vivo in India".
"This new association will enable us to explore newer avenues to reach our customers as we script our future growth strategy in India," he added.
Aamir in his acceptance statement said that "Vivo as a brand embodies the spirit of innovation and meaningful disruption. Over the years, the brand has been constantly pushing the boundaries of smartphone technology as we know it today to provide consumers with an enhanced mobility experience. I am enthused to be a part of Vivo's transformative journey in India."
The does sound like marketing spiel, but then again it is Aamir who has been quoted as having said that.
Aamir was previously brand ambassador of Samsung.
The 'Samsung Guru' then promoted feature phones, as seen in this commercial directed by Anurag Kashyap.
These were the pre-Samsung Galaxy S series days. Samsung's flagship of those days was probably the Beat series, an ad of which can be found here:
The times they have changed. Smarter phones are here, we need to see if we will have smarter ads that best these commercials he did for the world's premier phone brand.
