Suspected Naxalites abducted an Army jawan from the restive Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh late last evening.
The jawan had been identified as Vinay Singh (26), who was posted in the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) located near Bakawand block of Bastar district.
The 26-year-old jawan is a native of worst Naxal-infested Kukanaar village in Dantewada district.
He had come to his village on leave and had gone to play cricket in a nearby village Tendulnaar when the incident happened. "Since the police had not received any complaint, we would not officially confirm that it was an abduction case," Dantewada Superintendent of Police Amresh Kumar Mishra said. Sources had, however, said that some unidentified persons had taken away the jawan into the forest, Mishra added.
Sources said that Vinay Singh reportedly delivered a lecture to his friends and other players against the Naxalites after the match. When the jawan was returning to the village, rebels intercepted him and took him to the forests.
