Kolkata, Nov 29 (IANS) The West Bengal government cannot afford to provide different facilities to the industry like other advanced states like Maharashtra and Delhi as it is currently facing a huge financial crunch, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Thursday.

"I request all of you that please consider one thing that what Mumbai can avail, we cannot avail right now. What Delhi can avail, we cannot do it right now because ours is a different situation," Banerjee said while addressing the infrastructure development conclave "Bengal Builds" here.

"Now our government is busy in debt repayment. We are working in a disaster situation. Every morning I have to see whether my employees get the salary at the right time or not," she said.

"So where I get the opportunity to give all the facilities to our industry.. what they are asking for. They are genuine in their demand. I want to help you a lot. But you tell me the option. My options are very limited right now. My economic situation is not allowing me to do this job," the chief minister said.

Banerjee said although she wanted to say "yes" to the facilities urged by entrepreneurs, but the problems she was facing were the "earnings and the debt payment".

She, however, did not elaborate on the facilities that the industrialists wanted.

The Banerjee government has consistently been demanding that the central government should take measures to restructure the cash−starved state's debt, which stands at more than Rs.2 lakh crore.

The state has also wanted a moratorium on interest and repayment totalling Rs.22,000 crore on its debt for the next three years. The debt restructuring should include debt elimination, increased repayment tenure and reduced interest rate on loans.
