As Trinamool Congress loyalists tweeted that Shah Rukh Khan would become the brand ambassador of West Bengal, the state found a reason to cheer. It was hoped that having the baadshah of Bollywood on board would help transform the state’s beleaguered image and comparisons were made with Amitabh Bachchan – Gujarat’s brand ambassador. But contrary to reports that Khan will not charge any money for this, sources in Kolkata Knight Riders say he is a professional and will not do charity. Given the state’s desperate financial straits and the value of brand SRK, the prospects of brand Bengal may have to wait.
