A Bill passed in the Karnataka legislature calling for an increase in MLA salaries included an element to show how much the increase would be when compared to 1957. Curiously, there is a point on the telephone allowance that speaks of “Rs 10,000 per month towards meeting the expenditure incurred by him on telephone and cellphone calls”. Cellphones in 1957 in India? The first cellphone in the world was demonstrated in 1973!
