Can the cost of a mobile phone owned by a witness be considered integral to the 2G spectrum scam court case? Ram Jethmalani, Kanimozhi's lawyer in the case, appeared to think so. Midway through cross examining prosecution witness Aseervatham Achary, who was deposing against former Telecom Minister A Raja, Jethmalani caught him off guard by drawing attention to his expensive cell phone. Did Achary not agree that it cost between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 4 lakh, a little excessive for his income, Jethamalani asked. After stammering for a few seconds, Achary neither confirmed nor denied the figure, merely saying his phone was of Chinese make.
