CarDekho Awards 2013 honours India's most loved cars

The leading auto-portal of the country, an entirely new venture, star participants and a tremendous public response – that's how we describe the 2013 CarDekho Awards presented by, the first award event by, where nothing but the opinion of the general public stood at the supreme pedestal. Inaugurated on the 7th of January 2013, the event concluded after about a month of voting on the 9th of February 2013, but not before a staggering figure of 3,29,434 was clocked in on the voting counter, echoing the commendable zeal with which enthusiasts had turned up to vote for their favourite cars. With a view to provide something for everyone, these awards were split into 10 different categories, covering all popular segments of the automobile industry, be it hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs, UVs, luxury cars or, for that matter, manufacturers.

Meant to recognise those cars and car-makers who are considered to be the best in their respective fields by the masses, which comprise of everyone from aspirants to potential buyers to owners to fanatics to auto-experts, this activity can prove to be of great assistance to those who wish to buy a car of their own but are having a difficult time tackling the countless options that the market offers today. Not just them, but the automakers too can gain a lot from these awards only if they view their results as a reflection of the preferences, choices and expectations of the modern buyer.

Beginning with the biggest sellers of the car-bazaar, the title for the 'Most Popular Hatchback' went to the smart and stylish Hyundai i10, after it bagged the maximum votes in its category.

In the meantime, the award for the 'Most Popular Premium Hatchback' was won by the Maruti Suzuki Swift when a major part of the total votes polled in the section went to this incredible car.

In the category of 'Most Popular Sedan', it was the gorgeous Hyundai Fluidic Verna that came out as the winner, claiming a remarkably large share of the total votes registered for the section.

If we talk about the 'Best Sedan 2012' category, there could not have been a beauty more worthy of the title than the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire selected by the masses by bestowing upon it a large percentage of the total votes polled in this particular segment.

When it came to the most rapidly growing segment of the auto-industry, people chose the hot favourite, Mahindra XUV500, for the title of the 'Most Popular SUV', dedicating most of their votes cast in this category to it.

As for the 'Best SUV 2012', who could it be except for the dynamic Renault Duster, which swept the show by claiming a considerably big share of the total votes cast in the section for itself.

In the segment of the big family cars, i.e. of the Utility Vehicles, the title of the 'Most Popular UV' was presented to the iconic Toyota Innova, after a notable percentage of the total votes registered in the category were found reserved for it.

Featuring nothing but magnificence in each and every one of its nominations, the category for the 'Most Popular Luxury Car' proved to be a task to vote in. Eventually, awarding the largest number of votes cast for the section, India chose the stunning Land Rover Range Rover Evoque as the champion.

For the title of the 'Best Luxury Car 2012', meanwhile, BMW 6 Series Coupe was considered as the most deserving candidate and was given the maximum number of votes in the category.

After selecting the best from the incredible options that the market offers in the various segments, when the audiences were asked to select the best amidst the manufacturers that India has today, the celebrated Maruti Suzuki came out to be the clear winner, grabbing a major part of the total votes polled in the section, and was awarded with the title of the 'Manufacturer of the Year'.
