"The Chhattisgarh Employees-Officers Joint Forum has been formed to talk with the state government and decide future action in case it fails to accept the Pay Commission recommendations," forum convenor Subhash Mishra told IANS.

"Over 250,000 employees of the state government will observe a strike on Aug 21 to press for acceptance of the recommendations, and then we will review whether we should go in for an indefinite strike," he said.

Chhattisgarh's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, in view of the forthcoming assembly polls in October-November, will likely implement the pay panel's suggestion that government salaries be hiked.

The Union cabinet Aug 14 approved the new pay scale structure for five million government employees that will see an average salary increase of 21 per cent, and cost the exchequer Rs 22131 crore in the current fiscal.
