Kolkata, Nov 1 (IANS) State-run Coal India Limited has dispatched 253.7 million tonnes of coal between the April-October of fiscal 2012-13, registering a growth of 8.6 percent over the corresponding period in the previous fiscal, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said here Thursday.
The minister said the world's largest coal miner's coal production growth was 8.5 percent in the April-October period this fiscal.
"The incremental growth during this period was 18 million tonne as against the last fiscal,'' he told media persons on the sidelines of the CIL's foundation day programme.
The coal supply to the power sector during the April-October period has shown a 11.6 percent year on year growth, he said.
CIL chairman S.Narsing Rao said the total coal import in the country during the first six months (April-September) of the 2012-13 fiscal stood at 11 million tonnes against a projection of 23-24 million tonnes by the Central Electricity Authority.
