An analysis of market reports shows that this was due to increased price fetched per kg despite a lower volume being sold.

The volume sold dropped to 1.58 crore kg between January and May from 1.89 crore kg in 2008. Because of lower supplies, average price increased to Rs 76.19 a kg from Rs 54.68.

16.48% growth

This resulted in an overall realisation of Rs 120.38 crore against Rs 103.35 crore in 2008.

This increase of Rs 17.03 crore marked a growth of 16.48 per cent.
