Hyderabad, Aug 21 (IANS) In an attempt to instill confidence among people from Assam and other northeastern states, the Cyberabad police have decided to form confidence building committees, a police official said Tuesday.
The committees comprising local residents, public representatives, prominent leaders from both communities with the members of Assam Association will be formed sector wise.
There will be separate committees for IT sector, security agencies, students, hospitality, construction workers, nursing staff and banks.
A large number of Assamese and people from other northeastern states work in these sectors in Cyberabad police commissionerate, which covers the IT district and other growth clusters surrounding Hyderabad.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner D. Tirumala Rao said the decision to constitute the committees was taken at a meeting of officials from both states and community associations.
The officials discussed the steps being taken to check the flight of people from northeast. Over 1,000 people have returned to their home states during last few days due to the panic created by rumours.
The meeting decided to make an appeal to persons who left for Assam to come back and pursue their jobs and studies without any fear. People from northeast were asked to keep police helpline numbers with them.
The confidence building committees will be in touch with railway authorities.
The police commissioner said the police deployment and patrolling continued in areas where Assamese were residing in large numbers.
