The World's richest man, Jeff Bezos, could lose the status of the world's richest man. This loss will not be attributed to a stock market crash but rather something personal.

The 54 year old e-commerce czar's wealth had dipped by $8 billion during a trading week two months ago. This time however, the loss could be owing to a divorce.

Two days ago, reports said Jeff and 48 year old Mackenzie who had stuck with each other in a marriage that lasted 25 years were parting ways through a divorce.

Bezos confirmed the reports by tweeting that the two would get a divorce but continue to cherish each other as friends. In a statement, the duo said, "After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends."

The duo expressed their gratitude and further wrote, "We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again."

Jeff and MacKenzie who have four children look forth to working together as "parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures."

However, this is not where all the news ends.

Tabloid newspaper Enquirer tweeted that it had planned to expose the real reason behind the split. Enquirer and New York Post, both reported that Bezos was in a relationship with Lauren Sanchez, a former TV anchor. Sanchez was previously married to Hollywood talent agent Patrick Whitesell. Whitesell had been a celebrity agent to popular Hollywood celebrities such as Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, and Matt Damon.

An anonymous person close to Mackenzie was quoted explaining in a Bloomberg report that Mackenzie was aware of Bezos and Sanchez living together.

The Bloomberg report further says that Jeff Bezos could lose the status of the world's richest man, if the case involves a hefty settlement.

Mrs and Mr Bezos were pretty much a great pair, sharing work and family life. The duo also have significant interests in the company and various stakes. While Jeff owns 16% in Amazon, Mackenzie's ownership is not reported.

Bezos, according to Bloomberg Index owns fortunes worth $137 billion. The report speculates Bezos' wealth may be down by $69 billion, the amount Mackenzie could be left from the divorce and settlement processes. This means Jeff's wealth would be left to $68 billion, well below the second richest man- Bill Gates. Gates's fortunes were pegged at $92.5 billion.

The joint statement issued by the e-commerce powered celebrity couple does not indicate any bitterness. Speculators too believe that since most of their wealth is tied to a publicly traded company, bitterness is unlikely to show up.

However, if the issue of a settlement appears, do not be surprised to cheer a new richest man.
