Chennai, Oct 15 (IANS) Automobile major Eicher Motors is expected to commission a Rs.150-crore two-wheeler plant near here by the first quarter of next year, a senior company official said Monday.
"The company's new facility at Oragadam will be ready by the first quarter of 2013 and with the existing plant here, the total two-wheeler production capacity will be around 150,000 units per annum," Shaji Koshy, senior vice president, sales and marketing at Royal Enfield's two-wheeler division, told reporters here.
The division has increased the capacity of its plant here by 3,000 units to 10,000 units per month to meet the growing demand for its Bullet and Thunderbird motorcycles, said Venki Padmanabhan, chief executive officer of Royal Enfield, while launching the new model Thunderbird 500 cc.
He said the division is looking at overseas markets for its two-wheelers.
The division ships around 4,000 motorcycles per annum to markets like the US, Britain, Germany, France and Australia.
