At last, Vijay Mallya on Tuesday was arrested by the London police on the request of Indian authorities

The Westminster Magistrates Court though granted Mallya, 61, bail, three hours later after the former liquor baron furnished a 650000-pound (Rs 5.3 crore) bond.

Mallya on regaining his freedom dismissed the burst of excitement around his arrest as the "Usual Indian media hype. Extradition hearing in Court started today as expected." The implicit message from the one-time King of Good Times: As long as the British courts are around, don't expect to lay hands on me anytime soon.

The India government had requested UK to extradite Mallya to face trial after the liquor and aviation tycoon fled there in March 2016 after Indian banks went to the courts to recover about $1.4 billion that they said Kingfisher owes them.
