Mumbai: The Mumbai customs team has managed to recover Gold bars estimated at Rs 1.89 crores.

The Air Intelligence Unit of Mumbai airport was tipped about a Jet Airways Aircraft landing from Dubai to Mumbai, containing nearly seven gold bars weighing 6.99 kilos

The customs team swooped into action and recovered the bars from flight 9W-579. The bars were sealed in an adhesive material and were subsequently seized under the 1962 Customs act.

So far, the team at Mumbai's Customs department has held back the credentials of the passenger travelling with the Gold.

Two days ago, the Mumbai customs team recovered gold bars worth Rs 63 lakhs from Nasir Khan, a traveller to the bay from Dubai. Khan tossed a bag containing 116 grams of Gold to a toilet dustbin. But, after being investigated admitted of carrying the consignment.

Further investigations are on to confirm whether Khan had taken the consignment to deliver it to someone.

Cases of Gold smuggling are rising in the country. If not tossing Gold into toilet bins, smugglers are employing smart tricks such as carrying Gold in poop format. About a fortnight ago, smugglers baffled authorities in Hyderabad by carrying Gold in a poop-y format.

Although they ran out of luck, this is what they did.
