A GST panel will discuss exporter issues on Wednesday, September 19. The panel headed by Hasmukh Adhia, will be interacting with export promotion associations and councils in a bid to resolve exporter issues post the implementation of goods and service tax.

Exporters have explained that Rs 1.8 lakh crore worth working capital has been locked for due refunds from the tax department ever since introduction of GST from July 1.

The panel had been setup by Finance minister Arun Jaitley on September 9. The meeting is expected to involve representatives from eight export promotion associations. Rita Teaotia, the commerce secretary will also be atending this panel meet. This would be the first meeting after the panel got constitutionalized on September 12.

The other members in the committee meet would be the CBEC member (customs), DGF Director General, GST Council' Additional Secretary, Export Promotion Councils from the central government and commissioners of commercial taxes from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

The panel is mandated to recommend to the GST council a suitable strategy for helping the export sector in the post-GST set-up.

"Certain recommendations are expected to emerge from tomorrow's meeting of committee on exports", suggested a tweet from the panel.
