GTPL Introduces High-Definition (HD) Cable TV in Kolkata Metropolitan Area with HD Digital Set Top Boxes from Cisco

New Delhi, Delhi, India:Gujarat Telelink Private Ltd. (GTPL) today announced that it is rolling out high definition (HD) digital cable set top boxes from Cisco in Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA). Being one of the first HD digital cable set top box deployment in the country, this move will revolutionize consumer entertainment in the state and enable subscribers to experience superior HD TV along with other services such as DVR (digital video recording), HD gaming, VoD (Video on demand) and future Connected Home services to consumers. This announcement was made on the sidelines of Cable TV Show 2012, SAARC region’s largest cable TV show, at Nehru Indoor stadium, Kolkata.

GTPL, a leading Multi Service Operator (MSO) in India has recently acquired KCBPL, a leading provider of cable service in West Bengal and is focused on digitization of cable networks in the region. GTPL and Cisco will work together to usher in cable digitization across the key states of Gujarat, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Assam and Jharkhand to deploy more than 8,00,000 next-generation digital set-top boxes, both HD and SD, over the next 12 months in these markets.



GTPL is one of the pioneers of HD TV deployment. With several broadcasters looking at launching HD channels, introduction of HD Cable TV will provide a competitive advantage to GTPL vis--vis other cable operators as well as DTH providers.
