HC issues notice to Azim Premji Foundation

Karnataka High Court today ordered issue of notice to Azim Premji Foundation, state government and others on a PIL seeking action against the foundation for allegedly encroaching forest land in Kempapura near Bellandur lake on the city outskirts.

The petitioner, Santosh Min, alleged that the foundation, the social arm of the information technology major Wipro, has encroached 23 guntas (a little over half an acre) of land, the market value of which was around Rs six crore.

The Legislature Committee headed by A T Ramaswamy constituted by the government to identify encroachment of government land has also declared that the Azim Premji Foundation has encroached 23 guntas of land, but no action had been taken so far, he contended.

A Division Bench comprising Justices V Gopala Gowda and B V Pinto ordered issue of notices to the Foundation, Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (city civic body), Karnataka Area Industrial Development Board and the state government.
