High drama at power regulator's office

New Delhi, Oct 8 (IANS) Delhi's power regulator's office premises Monday witnessed high drama when BJP workers under Vijay Goel made an unscheduled appearance there - the venue where IAC activist Arvind Kejriwal was to protest against inflated electricity bills and high cost of power.

Goel along with over 100 supporters reached the office premises of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) before India Against Corruption leader Kejriwal's scheduled protest at 2 p.m. The arrival of BJP workers prompted Kejriwal to reach the venue around an hour before the scheduled protest of IAC.

Kejriwal questioned the BJP's act saying why didn't the party protest earlier when it knew that Dikshit was in collusion with power discoms (private electricity distribution companies).

"In May 2010, then DERC chairman Vijender Singh gave an order asking for 23 percent reduction in power tariff. The chief minister (Sheila Dikshit) put this order on the backburner and instead increased the power tariff. Was the BJP not aware of Vijender Singh's order. If it was, why didn't it raise the issue earlier," Kejriwal said.

Earlier, wearing caps on which 'bijli andolan' was inscribed, over 100 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters entered the premises of DERC at around 11 a.m.

They shouted slogans against Dikshit when they were stopped by security personnel from entering the office of the state electricity regulator.
