Higher tea volume on offer at Coonoor sales

Coonoor: A volume of 15.20 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 23 at the Coonoor Tea Trade Association's auctions to be held on Thursday and Friday. This is the highest volume so far in 2009.

This is some 2 lakh kg more than the offer of last week. It is 1.97 lakh kg more than the offer this time last week.

In the total volume of 15.20 lakh kg, fresh offer is 11.95 lakh kg. The balance comprises teas remaining unsold in previous auctions.

Of the 15.20 lakh kg on offer, 10.41 lakh kg belongs to the leaf grades and 4.79 lakh kg belongs to the dust grades. As much as 14.05 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.15 lakh kg, orthodox variety.

Orthodox lower

The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.54 lakh kg belongs to orthodox while 9.87 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 0.61 lakh kg belongs to orthodox while 4.18 lakh kg, CTC.
