Chennai: Ford Figo rolled out of the Maraimalai Nagar facility on February 5, 2010. The US car major has invested $500 million for setting up the state-of-the-art facility. The new facility will manufacture both petrol and diesel versions of Ford Figo, which is set to hit the Indian roads by March-end.
"After the domestic launch, Ford Figo will be exported to other countries," said Michael Boneham, President and MD, Ford India. The price of the car is likely to be competitive in the compact segment due to localisation of major auto components.
Prior to setting up this facility, Ford also examined its facilities across the globe and has brought the best practices for manufacturing in line with the Indian requirements.
Duly aided by robots, the world-class unit has the capacity to produce 2.5 lakh engines per annum.
After the expansion, Ford India houses 3,000 employees at the Maraimalai Nagar facility.
