& Poor's 500 index and Nasdaq composite both rose, the Dow Jones industrial average fell for a fifth day in a row. Bond yields, which had been rising sharply in recent days, pulled back Tuesday, bringing relief to investors worried about higher interest rates.
The Dow fell 7.75 points, or 0.05 percent, to 15,002.99.
The S&P 500 added 6.29 points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,652.35.
The Nasdaq rose 24.50 points, or 0.7 percent, to 3,613.59.
For the week:
The Dow is down 78.48 points, or 0.5 percent.
The S&P is down 3.48 points, or 0.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 10.81 points, or 0.3 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,898.85 points, or 14.5 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 226.16 points, or 15.9 percent.
The Nasdaq composite is up 594.08 points, or 19.7 percent.
